🎉 Celebrating 21 Years of Entrepreneurship: The Good, The Bad, and The Opportunity! 🚀Navigating the labyrinth of business, with all its twists, turns, and occasional trapdoors, has offered the most rewarding experiences. Let's start with the good stuff. Over the years, I've had the incredible privilege of crisscrossing five continents, from the bustling streets of New York City to the tranquil shores of Madagascar. As a keynote speaker and trainer, I've had the honor of gracing stages, ballrooms, and boardrooms, sharing insights, igniting inspiration, and providing conscious leadership, value-aligned business growth, and sustainable social solutions to countless souls. The YouMeWe Amplified Podcast also fires me up. I've had the pleasure of conversing with awe-inspiring women from 25 countries, all united by their drive to make a sustainable social impact. Each one is a force of nature in their own right. Now that's empowering!Of course, it hasn't all been champagne and caviar. Entrepreneurship has a knack for throwing curveballs when you least expect it. Cash flow fluctuations? Thanks to checking writing a book off the bucket list. Then there's the perpetual guessing game of "When's the next gig?" Yeah, been there, done that, got the stress-induced wrinkles. And let's not forget navigating perpetual unexpected, like addressing 2000 souls amidst the chaos of a buffet lunch - now that's a tale of pandemonium worth sharing! And then, just when you think you've cracked the code, along comes the pandemic, throwing mortgage payments into the ring. Because, let's face it, adulting was already a high-stakes game, and 2020 decided to crank up the difficulty level. Only to be complemented by the persisting "no pay for speakers" event strategies. But amidst the chaos and the curveballs, lies the golden nugget of opportunity. It's the people we meet along the way - fellow dreamers, believers, and doers, each adding their own vibrant hue to the mosaic of our adventure. It's the places we go, the cultures we immerse ourselves in, and the perspectives we gain - each one expanding our horizons and enriching our souls. And let's not overlook the friendships forged in the fires of entrepreneurship - bonds that withstand the test of time because when you've weathered storms together, you're bonded forever. And let's not forget the perks of being your own boss—like choosing when and for how long you can take a vacation, assuming the no-gig, mortgage, and cash flow haven't momentarily put you on pause. So, here's to 21 years of audacious dreams, relentless hustle, and unwavering determination. Here's to the good, the bad, and the opportunity - because, let's be real, it's the messy bits that make the story worth telling. Cheers to the next 21 years, my fellow adventurers. Let's make some mischief, shall we? 🥂 What is your favorite part of this entrepreneurship adventure? #YouMeWeAmplified #youmeweevolution #entrepreneurlife
I love connecting with amazing humans you feel you have known for years (because you interviewed them on your YouMeWe Amplified Podcast because they are sheIMPACTpreneurs transforming where we live or working with sustainable social solutions—https://podcast.youmewe.ca/) but have never met face-to-face. And they come to your small community "to get away from it all." It was wonderful to connect with Natasha Halliday and @Dr. Natasha Williams. You both are incredible humans! I so enjoyed the complex conversations and your unique perspectives... not to mention the many, many laughs. For those who know me (or the Natasha's), we dove deep!
Hey, small business mavens! Feeling like a lone sailor in the social impact seas? The big players have charted some promising paths for 2024, thanks to the Benevity Corporate Purpose Report. They're embedding social impact deeply into their operations—less silo, more synergy. And here’s a thought: if they can make their purpose profitable, so can we. Let’s dive into how we can navigate these strategies too!Let’s break it down,1. Speak with Purpose: When we talk, let’s make it count. Big corps are picky about when they raise their voices—so should we. It's not about the noise; it's about the note. Find that sweet spot where your voice can really resonate with your community.2. Community Is King: ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) in the corporate world are stretching beyond just diversity. They're getting into the nitty-gritty of business impact. Let’s take that cue—every team member can be a think-tank contributor. More brains on the main objectives equals more creative solutions! I like to call this Compassion-Connection™ Circles. 3. Supercharge Your Volunteers: Volunteer efforts are getting a major upgrade in the corporate sector. Think beyond the occasional community clean-up. What unique volunteer opportunities can align with and amplify our brand values?4. Tech with Ethics: If the big guys are making sure their AI is ethical, small businesses can definitely put consciousness in the cockpit. Let’s lead with technology that respects both the user and the community.5. ROI or Bust: It’s a tight ship financially for everyone. This means being sharp about where every dollar goes. Make your philanthropy efforts count—track their impact just like your investments. So, here's the rallying cry for all you small business leaders out there: Let’s not just ride the waves of change—let’s make them. Can we take these big corporate insights and tailor them to our scale? Absolutely. Let’s pivot, adapt, and show that size isn’t everything when it comes to making a significant impact.Ready to make 2024 your year of purpose-driven success? Let's chat about how we can take these big ideas and make them work for our smaller stages. Dive in, the water’s fine! Think You're Making an Impact? Let's Take It Up a Notch! For the last 13 years, I've been deeply committed to amplifying the voices of women changemakers across 25 countries, fostering a global community of IMPACTpreneurs who are not just running businesses but revolutionizing their communities with #socialimpact. However, recently, I've hit a conundrum – choosing who "qualifies" to be a guest on the YouMeWe Amplified Podcast. Why? Because the surge in dedication to DEI, empowerment, and sustainability (at least in regards to suppliers) is impressively widespread. 🌍 This widespread commitment is inspiring, but it begs a crucial question: Beyond the basics, what groundbreaking actions can SMEs and solopreneurs embrace to not only transform their own lives but also catapult their communities to new heights? 🚀YouMeWe Amplified Podcast zeroes in on Business Founders who are not just talking the talk but walking the walk—directly impacting those who are underrepresented, underserved, and underacknowledged. Their bold steps to empower these groups are what light up my spirit and should set our collective ambitions on fire! These are the people we all can learn from!Check it out here: podcast.youmewe.ca (or your favorite streaming services)Take a leaf from my book (literally!): a portion of the proceedsfrom my book funds scholarships for women in Africa. 🚀 The Paradox of Immigration in a Land of Opportunity 🚀In a country that actively seeks talent, expertise, and labour, why do we erect such formidable barriers for those who wish to contribute? This contradiction is at the heart of a compelling story I recently uncovered on my podcast with Jayne Laura Akinyi O. , the visionary founder of Dada Dunia. Jayne's move to Canada was supposed to herald a new chapter filled with opportunity and growth. 🇨🇦➡️🌎Despite her extensive global experience across four continents, a master's degree from the UK, and a resume rich in diversity, she was met with a bewildering challenge. The warm promise of "start a brand new life in Canada" morphed into a cold reality marked by a haunting refrain: "You don't have Canadian experience." This phrase, vague and repeatedly wielded, began to lose all significance. What does "Canadian experience" mean when one has thrived in varied international environments? 🤔Her initial excitement turned existential as she grappled with just surviving—juggling two minimum-wage jobs and battling a deteriorating mental health that led to hospitalization for ulcers. A painful yet clarifying moment. 🏥💡Why should this journey be so arduous? Why must any newcomer, particularly a Black woman, navigate such a relentless uphill in a land celebrated for its inclusivity and opportunities? From this crucible of hardship, Dada Dunia was born. Initially conceived to help immigrants in Canada, Jayne’s mission expanded after engaging deeply with over 200 women in Kenya, recognizing that meaningful change needed to start at the roots. 🌱🔄Jayne's resilience and determination not only improved her own circumstances but also set out to smooth the path for others. Her story is a testament to the power of overcoming and transforming systemic barriers into bridges. As we share her journey, let’s challenge ourselves and our systems:How can we truly value diverse experiences in our professional landscapes? What steps can we undertake to ensure the 'new life' promise is a gateway, not a maze of barriers? To listen/watch/ or read the entire conversation, visit: lnkd.in/gBme_ipgChange is overdue. Want to be a Conscious Rebel?Isn't it incredible how the choices we make while shopping can be tiny acts of rebellion for good? Take, for example, something as simple as choosing a beer. I recently discovered a gem brewed by Four Fathers Brewing Co. that tastes fantastic and supports Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis. Now, that’s a sip worth taking!Check it out here: fourfathersbrewing.ca/about/stand4something/ FFour Fathers Brewing Co.What if we all took a moment to consider the power behind our purchases?Whether it’s eco-friendly gadgets, socially conscious apparel, or a pint that packs a punch for a cause, each buy is a vote for the world we want to live in.What product do you buy that contributes to a cause you care about?
