Here’s a question worth asking this International Women’s Day:Why are women still dramatically under-represented in the rooms where the biggest decisions about our world are made?Women make up 51% of Canada’s population, yet only about 30% of Members of Parliament are women.Globally, women hold just 27% of parliamentary seats.That means the majority of society is still under-represented in the places where policies are shaped.And look around the world right now.The temperature is high.Division is louder than dialogue.Too many policies are still crafted through narrow lenses.We need more women bringing their voices to municipal councils, provincial legislatures, federal government, and international institutions—not because women are perfect, but because balanced leadership produces better outcomes.Without women’s voices in the room:• Policies overlook the realities of families, caregivers, and communities• Economic strategies miss the potential of half the population• Decisions about health, infrastructure, education, and security are shaped through incomplete perspectivesAnd when perspectives are limited, so are the solutions.Countries like Rwanda (63.8% women in parliament), Cuba (55.7%), Nicaragua (55%), and Mexico (50%+) have shown that balanced representation is possible.So this isn’t about whether it can be done.It’s about whether we choose to do it.Let me be clear:I’m not suggesting every woman would make a great politician.But I am suggesting this:What we are doing now clearly isn’t working.Look around.If we want a society designed for everyone, then everyone must be at the table shaping it.More women in politics doesn’t just change who governs.It changes how we govern—bringing collaboration, broader perspectives, and policies that reflect the complexity of the communities they serve.So this International Women’s Day, let’s do more than celebrate women.Let’s encourage more of them to run.Support those who step forward.And ensure their voices are heard where it matters most.What might our policies—and our future—look like if more women were shaping them?🌊 A world designed mostly by men will reflect mostly men.A world designed together will work for everyone.#internationalwomensday #WomenPolitics #Leadership #MakeWaves# ... This wasn’t a content strategy. It was a contribution strategy.In 2009, I convinced my husband to sell everything we owned.Everything.In 2010, with backpacks and a camera, we set off across 19 African countries to interview Pioneering African Women.The vision was clear:African leaders educating future African women leaders.From that vision, YouMeWe Amplified (then Wisdom Exchange TV) was born.Not for entertainment.Not for branding.For contribution.Over the next sixteen years, the platform reached thousands around the world.But here’s the truth:I don’t think anyone was more transformed than me.Seventy African women — reshaping politics, education, business, and advocacy — changed how I lead and how I show up.I never asked what contribution they made.I didn’t need to.It was woven into everything they did.Every one of them was committed to uplifting her community, her country, her continent.I brought that wave home.The mission expanded to women across 25+ countries — founders, politicians, educators, advocates — all demonstrating that social impact is not an afterthought, but a strategic initiative.These were never casual interviews.They were case studies in conscious leadership.Sixteen years later, I am deeply grateful.Grateful for the offices and living rooms opened to us.Grateful for the laughter and tears.Grateful that those early African interviews remain among the most watched.But what has always been clear is this:When women begin an initiative, they want to ensure it counts.And so, with steady conviction, I have made a difficult decision.I will be concluding the YouMeWe Amplified Podcast.It has been a labour of love — interviewing, editing, marketing — alongside building a sustainable business. And as much as I value this contribution, I can no longer sustain its demands while stepping into the next phase of my work.Completion is not retreat.
