Empowerment Thru Pay is Real Empowerment

Take this into account during March – Women’s History Month.

In 2024, I made a bold statement.

I boycotted #InternationalWomensDay events where women speakers were expected to work for free.

Empower thru Pay - Women's Day

That post sparked a conversation—over 20,000 impressions on LinkedIn—and one thing became crystal clear:

Empowerment without pay isn’t empowerment.

Let’s be honest. Every Women’s Day, companies and organizations of all sizes preach about empowering women while asking women entrepreneurs, speakers, and leaders to share their expertise for free. The irony? The very women they want to spotlight end up being undervalued and disempowered.

Here’s the thing: This script can change. And you can flip it.

For #InternationalWomensDay 2025, here are five ways to ensure you’re truly empowering women this year:

1️⃣ Hire women speakers and pay them fairly—no “exposure,” no “opportunity,” just real pay for real expertise.

2️⃣ Sponsor women-owned businesses—collaborate with women entrepreneurs to provide visibility AND financial support.

3️⃣ Invest in female-led nonprofits—offer grants, partnerships, or resources to accelerate their missions, especially nonprofits elevating women and girls (e.g., support your local shelter)

4️⃣ Bring women vendors to your events—whether it’s catering, tech support, or event planning, hire women to supply services.

5️⃣ Celebrate women in leadership—create a platform that showcases their achievements and compensates for their time and effort. (YouMeWe Amplified podcast –podcast.youmewe.ca -has a wealth of wave-making women who offer services while having a social impact! You can empower women AND support social impact with one decision.

It’s time to put money where your message is.

When you hire a woman to inspire, teach, provide resources, or empower others, pay her for the value she brings.

So this year, I’m still standing strong on this message: Empowerment through pay is real empowerment.

What action will YOU take to empower women this #InternationalWomensDay? (March 8th, by the way 🤗)
